What is Karate?

Karate is an ancient martial art based on the principles of discipline, self-control, and respect. It enhances physical endurance while also improving mental focus. From children to adults, it strengthens the harmony between mind and body and provides a path to boosting self-confidence. Karate is not just a martial art; it is also a philosophy of life that helps individuals find inner peace and discover balance and patience in their daily lives.

What does Karate aim for?

GICHIN FUNAKOSHI

Gichin Funakoshi (1868–1957) was a Japanese martial artist, often regarded as the "father" of modern karate. Born in Okinawa, Funakoshi played a significant role in popularizing karate on the Japanese mainland. By blending traditional Okinawan martial arts with Japanese influences, he created Shotokan Karate; the name comes from his pen name, "Shoto." Funakoshi emphasized discipline, respect, and the philosophical aspects of karate, stating, "The ultimate goal of karate is not victory or defeat, but the perfection of character." His legacy continues to influence martial arts worldwide.
